This is the entrance from Temple District.
2. Sassar
Sassar, a former disciple of the Cult of the Unseeing Eye, will speak to you here. He'll tell you that the Cult worships a Beholder. To kill the Beholder you will need two pieces of a powerful artifact, the first of which is in the Rift Area. The Beholder has the second piece.
3. Shade Lich's Sarcophagus
Lift the lid of this huge stone sarcophagus and you will collect the Golden Arms & Legs needed for the quest of Kangaxx the Lich. You will also find yourself in an unbelievably tough fight with a Shade Lich... Prepare yourselves accordingly before opening the tomb.
When you leave the Lower Reaches you will arrive here. You cannot enter them using this passage however, it is one-way.
This exit leads to the Rift Area
6. Gas Chamber
When you walk into this room a trap will spring, the heavy lead doors will slam shut and it will fill with gas. Use the large wheel in the centre of the chamber to reopen the doors.
7. Gaal
Gaal, a member of the Cult of the Unseeing Eye, will greet you here. To enter the cult hideout you must use Gaal's Key, so you should convince him you wish to be members or you will not be allowed entrance. The cultists cut out their own eyes as part of their initiation ceremony as they are "limiting and offensive". The cult is inspired by a similar organisation in the Jean-Pierre Jeunet film "The City of Lost Children", and several lines in the speeches given by their members are directly quoted from the film. The cult's philosophy is also probably a reference to Mark 9:43-48 in the Bible, specifically 9:47 and 9:48:
“..and if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out. It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into hell, where 'their worm does not die, and the fire is not quenched.'”
8. Cultist Bedchambers I-V
These small rooms serve as bedchambers for the cultists. Ransack them after you have wiped out the cult.
9. Initiation Area
In this area the cult pupils (bad pun intended..) are initiated into cult membership. The cultmaster will gladly offer to remove the eyes of your party members... I wouldn't take them up on it if I were you.
This path leads down into the Lower Reaches, where you will meet the Beholder that the cult worships.
