1. Entrance from Gnome Mining Pit

This is the entrance to the settlement from the Gnome Mining Pit. When you first arrive here you'll be greeted by Beorn, who will at first be worried that your party means the village harm. If you convince him that you are friendly sorts he will ask you to speak to him at the temple at area five in the northeast corner of the village to discuss a task you might help him with.

2. Nym

Nym, a dark elf merchant, runs a small shop here. If you speak to him for a while you will discover that he is responsible for the fall of Dorn's Deep and the Hand of the Seldarine. If you attempt to attack him when you learn this he will just disappear before you can even move, so don't bother. He has a great deal of valuable items for sale and will gladly trade with you. Two of the items Nym carries are important and you must purchase them in order to help Valestis in the Severed Hand arboretum: a cage of birds and a cage of squirrels. After speaking to Nym, and before attacking him if you plan to do so, speak to Dirty Llew.

3. Llew

A duergar named Llew waits at this small well. If you speak to him he will offer to trade with you. If you have a rhinoceros beetle shell, he'll offer to use it to make a shield for you, which will take him ten days. You can always rest at area four if necessary.

Once you have the shield, return to Nym at area two, who will enchant the shield for you for 30,000 gold pieces (yes, thirty thousand). If you complain about the price, he'll offer to include a magic dagger for an additional 3,000 gold pieces. Of course, both Llew and Nym are trying to rip you off. If you make the deal you'll get Nym's Dagger and Nym's Rhino Beetle Shield. The dagger strikes for three to six points of damage with +2 THACO, the shield provides +3 to armour class, plus one against missile weapons and a +15% resistance to magic. Neither is really worth the money.

4. Flophouse

This small house can be used to rest your party to recover energy and heal wounds as necessary.

5. Temple of Callarduran

This simple temple is dedicated to Callarduran, God of Beorn's people. Beorn will ask you to help rescue the Gnome Ruby Priest, Guello, who has been captured and made to work in the Salamander Mines. Once you have freed Guello return here to the temple and you will be rewarded for your assistance.
