Parmenides of Elea was born in the early 5th Century BC on the southern coast of Italy, and was a student of Ameinias and the founder of the School of Elea.
Although only one of his works survives to this day in a fragmented form, his ideas had considerable influence on the works of Plato, who refers to him in his dialogue Sophist as “our Father Parmenides”, and featured him as the protagonist of the dialogue that bears his name.
